Stable Vortex Solitons and Robust Soliton Complexes in Optical Media with Competing Nonlinearities
نویسنده
چکیده
An overview of recent results in the field of vortex (spinning) solitons and soliton complexes composed of several fundamental (nonspinning) solitons in twoand three-dimensional optical media with competing nonlinearities is presented. It is concluded that multidimensional solitons with intrinsic topological charge are stable provided that their internal size and power (energy) are large enough. The stable vortices are truly robust ones, easily self-trapping from input beams with embedded vorticity. A class of robust soliton complexes in nonlinear media combining self-focusing and self-defocusing optical nonlinearities is introduced. The stability of vortex (spinning) solitons is a generic feature of nonlinear optical media with competing self-focusing and self-defocusing nonlinearities.

Stable Higher-Charged Vortex Solitons in Optically-Induced Lattices
Vortices are fundamental objects which appear in many branches of physics [1] such as optics [2, 3] and Bose-Einstein condensates [4]. In nonlinear optics, vortex solitons are associated with the phase dislocations (or phase singularities) carried by the nondiffracting optical beams [5], and share many common properties with the vortices observed in other systems, e.g., superfluids and Bose-Ein...
متن کاملStabilization of vortex solitons by combining competing cubic-quintic nonlinearities with a finite degree of nonlocality
In contrast to an infinite degree of nonlocality, we demonstrate that vortex solitons in nonlinear media under competing self-focusing cubic and self-defocusing quintic nonlocal nonlinearities can be stabilized with a finite degree of nonlocality. Stable vortex solitons in the upper branch, bifurcated from the competing cubic-quintic nonlinearities, are found to be supported when the original d...
متن کاملDark Optical Solitons: Physics and Applications
We present a detailed overview of the physics and applications of optical dark solitons: localized nonlinear waves (or ‘holes’) existing on a stable continuous wave (or extended finite-width) background. Together with the traditional problems involving properties of dark solitons of the defocusing cubic nonlinear Schrödinger equation, we also describe recent theoretical results on optical vorte...
متن کاملBright solitons from defocusing nonlinearities.
We report that defocusing cubic media with spatially inhomogeneous nonlinearity, whose strength increases rapidly enough toward the periphery, can support stable bright localized modes. Such nonlinearity landscapes give rise to a variety of stable solitons in all three dimensions, including one-dimensional fundamental and multihump states, two-dimensional vortex solitons with arbitrarily high t...
متن کاملVortex Solitons and Rotating Azimuthons in Nonlinear Media
We give a brief overview of the recent advances in nonlinear singular optics that studies the propagation and stability of optical vortices in nonlinear media, with the emphasis on the properties of vortex solitons and rotating azimuthons. In general, self-focusing nonlinearity generates the azimuthal instability of vortex beams, but it can support novel types of stable (or metastable) self-tra...
